My Review:
When I began reading this I thought it was a long novel. When I finished it twenty minutes later I was extremely sad that there wasn't more to the story. However it was a wonderful plot and I really enjoyed reading it. Since it is written in a British dialogue it was a bit of an adjustment to get used to the language but it also made the story that much more engaging. I must say that I would read more of this authors work because it was really well written. It's truly a great story of finding the one in places that you wouldn't expect.

The Last Strand- Van Krishna

Amazon Description:
When her dog died and her boyfriend turned gay, Liz Collins forced herself to look on the bright side of things and stoically endure misfortune. Liz knew the sun would shine for her, for her mother always told her so. But when her parent's died in a tragic car accident, a part of her died with them. The naive part that believed in tomorrow's sunshine rather than the night's darkness, the darkness of sin and death. But even when she was falling part, she couldn't fall apart. She just couldn't. For the sake of her family and for Stacy—Liz's morbid, redhead, best friend. Even if Stacy would never admit to anyone—least of all Liz—she was all Stacy had and Liz made a promise to attend college with her. For a girl holding on to the last strand of her sanity and self-esteem, it was a promise that offered her an escape from the never ending nightmare that was her life but nothing more. Until, she meets Nick Jones.

Flying was his passion and the only thing stopping Nick from being a fighter pilot was a
college degree. Should be a piece of cake compared to his last surveillance mission in Afghanistan or his last rescue mission in Brazil. Or so he thought, until he discovered his girlfriend Liz's knack of stumbling into trouble. The girl's got a bounty on her head, literally.

Charming, annoying and ruggedly gorgeous, Nick Jones was full of surprises and falling for him was not part of Liz's plan, if she ever had one. After all, Liz was still holding on to the last strand of life and taking a leap of faith at that point was a bit like
sky diving without a parachute. But she couldn't resist Nick. She couldn't seem to help herself. Brave, no. Foolish, maybe. Because a man who says he is an FBI agent just dropped the biggest bombshell about her new, mysterious boyfriend and his whereabouts on the day of her parent's death. Tore between love and despair, Liz is put to the ultimate test of creating her own destiny from the clutches of fate, inflicted upon her.

My Review:
One of the things I absolutely loved about this book is that it put you straight into the action. I was enthralled from the get go and when the author suddenly shifted back in time to the events leading up to the action I just had to keep reading. I had to know what had happened to make someone want to put a bounty on Liz's head. The love and electricity between Nick and Liz moved the story along in an interesting way, I couldn't turn away from the book because the author kept adding in new twists that I just had to know the repercussions of.
I do have to say that I was a little disappointed with the ending, I felt like the problem was resolved way to quickly and that there was no true reason for the bounty. It just didn't make sense to me. As well the transition from present to past in the beginning was confusing and for awhile I was unclear that I was reading about the past.
All in all I believe the book had a great plot but would have been better if developed a little bit more.

Invisible by: Cecily Anne Paterson

Amazon Description:
Jazmine Crawford doesn’t make decisions. She doesn’t make choices. She doesn’t make friends. Jazmine Crawford only wants one thing: to be invisible. For Jazmine, it’s a lot easier to take out her hearing aid and drift along pretending that nothing’s wrong than it is to admit that she’s heartbroken about her dad dying. She’s been drifting and ignoring her over-worried mum for four years now.
When bad girl Shalini and her mates adopt Jazmine, she quickly finds herself involved in more than she can handle. Sitting in disgrace in the principal’s office, Jazmine is offered a choice: help drama teacher Miss Fraser in the upcoming production of The Secret Garden or face a four week suspension.
It’s Miss Fraser who clinches the decision. “I believe in you Jazmine,” she says. “I know you can do this.” And Jazmine, terrified, disbelieving and elated all at the same time, joins the play.
For a while it’s all good. Drama star and chocolate lover Liam is friendly and Jazmine realises that making friends, talking to her mother and feeling her emotions isn’t as scary as she thought. In a final happy twist of fate, acting diva Angela quits the play and with only a week to go, Miss Fraser asks Jazmine to take on the main role of Mary.
But then Shalini returns from her suspension. She’s out for payback, and she has just the ammunition she needs to force Jazmine to quit the play and go back to her old ways.
Will Jazmine be confident enough to stand up for herself against Shalini? Will Liam still like her if he finds out who she really is? And does she have the strength to face the truth about her father’s suicide?

My Review: When I read the description of this book I knew that I had to read it. Ever since I began watching the ABC Family show Switched At Birth, anything dealing with the deaf and ASL (American Sign Language) intrigues me. I immediately downloaded the (free) book onto my Kindle and began to read. I finished it in just two days! It was that good. It really opened my eyes to some of the harsh realities that a lot of hearing impaired kids deal with everyday. What I really like about how the author made Jazmine is that she didn't make her hearing impairment an excuse or a crutch that she relied on to get out of things. She was painted as a normal teenage girl, that yes had a hearing problem but she dealt with it just like any teenager would deal with something like brushing their teeth.
Although some of the scenes in the book were rushed, it was very well written and easy to follow. That's definitely one of the things that I look for in a good book, a story line that is easy to follow. This is a truly wonderful story about how someone can go from being invisible to being in the spotlight with just one simple little choice.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a good read!

Wicked Games (A Games Novel)-Jill Myles and Jessica Clare

Amazon Description:
Abby Lewis never pictured herself on the survival game show, Endurance Island. She's just not the 'survival' type. But when her boss offers her a spot on the show and the opportunity of a lifetime, she packs her bags and heads to the tropics to be a contestant. Once in the game, it's clear that Abby's in over her head. The game itself is full of competitive, aggressive people, and no one's more aggressive than sexy, delicious - and arrogant - Dean Woodall. Sure he's clever, strong, good at challenges, and has a body that makes her mouth water. He also hates Abby just as much as she hates him. That's fine with her; she'll just ignore the jerk. But the rules of Endurance Island are working against them. Abby and Dean are teamed up - alone - on the beach. It's either work together, or go home. Stuck with no one else's company but their own, they learn they do make a good team after all. And that with just a little bit of kindling, the flames of hate can quickly turn to flames of passion. This book features enemies, lovers, enemies who become lovers, and lots and lots of tropical heat...

I stumbled upon this book a few days ago when looking for a new book to read. It sounded intriguing from the description and on top of that it was free for kindle! I started reading it yesterday and was instantly intrigued. It takes on the same setting as the popular TV show Survivor but instead of only seeing the highlights, you get an inside experience at life in the game and just how far people are willing to go to win. This heartbreaking romance between Abby and Dean, paired contestants in the highly acclaimed TV show Endurance Island, will take you through a roller coaster of emotions. Taking one point of view and then completely contradicting it later on. This is definitely a book unlike anything that I have ever read before.

I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good action adventure novel as well as a romance.

Cover Reveal and Giveaway- Destiny by Cindy Ray Hale

Super excited that Cindy has agreed to let me be apart of the cover reveal of her debut novel Destiny!

Cover Design by

Destiny Clark, a young Mormon girl living in Tennessee, is wildly infatuated with Isaac Robinson, the headmaster’s son at her Baptist high school. When they’re cast together in the school’s production of Les Misérables, Destiny is horrified to find that she has to be publicly humiliated by acting out her true feelings of rejection onstage.
As their rehearsals begin, Destiny realizes the unimaginable: Isaac has developed deep feelings for her despite their religious differences and the fact that he has a girlfriend. But will they be able to find their place amongst the backbiters of their ultra-conservative world?
Weaving around Destiny and Isaac's alternating viewpoints, Destiny is the first book in a series inspired by the characters of Les Misérables and explores heartbreak, self-discovery, intolerance, and love.

Excerpt From Destiny:

“This is my favorite place to come when I need to think,” I said. The remaining light was orange as it filtered through the autumn foliage onto the hammock below.

“It’s very peaceful,” Isaac said. “I can see why you like it.” He scrutinized me, his facial muscles fighting to find the appropriate expression. Confusion, worry…interest? Each battled for control of his features. “It must be really hard for you and your family, being the only Mormons at a school full of Baptists.”
I blinked in surprise. I really wasn’t expecting this kind of sympathy from the headmaster’s son. I imagined that Dr. Robinson had been filling his mind with lies about Mormons since he was a small boy—especially after our family converted. There was a lot of anti-Mormon talk going around during that time, and Dr. Robinson wasn’t the only person educating the congregation on what he thought we believed. Mormons weren’t the only ones spoken against either. I’d heard similar words regarding Catholics, Muslims, Wiccans, Seventh-Day Adventists, and Jehovah’s Witnesses.
“I’m surprised that you even care,” I whispered.
“I know it may seem that way because of how my dad doesn’t agree with your church, but I don’t necessarily feel the same way. The more he tries to convince me that there’s something wrong with you, the more I want to learn about what you believe.”
I blinked in surprise. These were the last words I’d ever expected to hear coming from Isaac’s lips. “I—I don’t know what to say.”
He smiled, eyes softening as they traveled across my face. “You know,” he whispered as he reached a hand up and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, “even covered in mud, sticks, and dust, you are absolutely breathtaking.” I needed to tell him to stop, that this wasn’t right, but I stood immobile.
“I haven’t stopped thinking about you since our practice. When you sang with me, I felt so connected to you. I’ve hardly been able to sleep.”
We stood face-to-face. His chocolate eyes so warm, my heart beating so fast it was about to explode. How many times had I hoped for this moment? I never in a million years had imagined that such words would come out of Isaac’s mouth. That perfectly beautiful mouth. This was unreal, beyond my wildest daydreams. It was so hard to fight the desire to be with him. All my most unreachable dreams were suddenly, so unbelievably, about to come true.

About the wonderful author!

Cindy Ray Hale lives in Murfreesboro, Tennessee with her husband and four children. In addition to being a writer, she’s an avid reader and a social media junkie. She starts her morning by writing with a freshly-blended berry spinach smoothie next to her. She’s obsessed with Les Misérables, playing the piano, and stalking up-and-coming musicians on YouTube. When she’s not writing, she’s singing. Like the characters in her book, she sang in the elite choir in high school. She went on to join the choir in college. She’s a member of her church choir today and belts her favorite songs while she folds laundry and does dishes. Her kids could tell all about it.

Her Destiny books are very near to her heart because they were heavily influenced by her own life. She’s Mormon and attended a Baptist school for seven years where she faced the same intolerance Destiny faces in the series. Several scenes from the story were written word-for-word from her own life experiences. While her life hasn’t been completely miserable, she’s still seen her fair share of trials. Her motto is: “When times get tough, throw your head back and laugh.” Destiny is her first novel and is Book One of the Destiny Trilogy.

Destiny will be available for purchase November 2013 on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Smashwords, and Kobo. It will be released as a paperback and an ebook.

The title of the next book in the Destiny Trilogy is Synchrony and will be available for purchase next year.

Love Over Matter by: Maggie Bloom

Description as given on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Love-Over-Matter-ebook/dp/B00DLJYN1E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375745512&sr=8-1&keywords=love+over+matter):
Sixteen-year-old Cassie McCoy would do anything to contact George—her best friend and secret
crush—beyond the grave, including dabbling in dark magic. But her “powers” are stuck in neutral. Everyone is on her case to move on with her life. And there’s a lot she never knew about George—or so says a mysterious, familiar-looking stranger who may not only be the key to George’s hidden past but, if the storm clouds align just right, the means of delivering Cassie’s bittersweet goodbye.

My Review: When I first spotted this book on Amazon (for free I might add!) I was overly excited. I generally gravitate towards books that have to do with special powers and the like. However when I began reading the book, I was thoroughly confused. There was way to much information thrown at you in the first chapter, even after finishing I'm still not one hundred percent sure who one of the characters are. I also found that there were a lot of unnecessary characters and circumstances within the novel. I almost stopped reading after the first couple chapters but I persevered and pushed my way through the book. Towards the middle of the book, the plot completely shifted from Cassie trying to contact her dead friend George to a investigative mission. That part to me was way better then the beginning but my view of the book soon changed yet again when there was another story change involving Russian Spies. By the end of the book I felt like I have read excerpts from three different books. None of it seemed to really fit together, though the author did make connections between the parts I didn't feel like it flowed. I think that if Bloom had stuck with one major plot then it would have been a great story but there was too much extra and outlandish circumstances for my taste.

The Modified (The Biotics Trilogy, #1) by: C.A. Kunz

This book has been sitting on my Kindle for some time and just the other day I decided that it was time to conquer it, and I must say I wish I had done it sooner. When I first began to read the gripping tale of seventeen year old Kenley that was being drafted into the military with her best friend Joey I immediately got the same vibe as when I read The Hunger Games. To be honest it intrigued me, I had no idea what direction this war story would take. Delving deeper into the novel I was faced with a roller coaster of emotions. Love and heartbreak being the most prominent. I made it through more then half the book in just a few hours, I reluctantly had to put it down for a few days since I didn't have the time to delve back in! I literally just finished reading it moments ago and knew that I had to get right on my blog and write it a stellar review! Kunz took me into a syfi world that I couldn't even begin to imagine! (I'd tell but I don't want to spoil it for those of you who wish to read!) This book truly illuminates how their government the, Allied Federation, will do anything to control everything within their grasp.

This book will definitely leave you hanging at the end ready to engulf the sequel as soon as it's released! I know I'll be on the lookout for the next one!

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a captivating adventure as well as anyone who is looking to read something new and exciting!
